About Puget Sound Tides
Puget Sound and the Salish Sea have some of the largest tidal ranges in the continental US. Seattle sees swings of 11–14 feet, and the complex geography of the Sound means tidal timing varies significantly from one area to the next — the southern Sound near Olympia can lag the north by several hours. Minus tides — when water drops below the average low water mark — are common and expose wide tidal flats rich with clams, oysters, and marine life.
TideSwell maps all 33 stations across the region, making it easy to see tidal state simultaneously from Olympia to Tacoma to Seattle to the San Juan Islands — all layered over nautical depth charts.
